• Beginnings

  Takeru Amano was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1977. He was ten years old when he went to see a Keith Haring exhibition. What he witnessed left an indelible impression on him. Haring painted on the store's walls, so instead of using paper, Takeru decided to spray-paint some flowers on the walls of the nearby swimming pool. It was the start of his colorful career.

• Style & Technique

  His universe is one-of-a-kind and playful, influenced by the Japanese culture of the late twentieth century in which he grew up. Takeru combines classical, philosophical, or even mythological themes with neo-pop aesthetics and, on sometimes, a dash of humour. Consider Venus with a lemon.
