Biography

Takeru Amano is a Japanese Asian Modern & Contemporary artist who was born in 1977. Most of his works feature plain-faced women who have replaced ancient goddesses. These nudes are unorthodox and unqiuely Japanese in style. One can observe the influences of various contempary artists on Amano's work, such as Keith Haring

  • Beginnings

Takeru Amano was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1977. He was ten years old when he went to see a Keith Haring exhibition. What he witnessed left an indelible impression on him. Haring painted on the store's walls, so instead of using paper, Takeru decided to spray-paint some flowers on the walls of the nearby swimming pool. It was the start of his colorful career.

  • Most Famous Works

Takeru Amano's work has previously been featured in a number of important galleries and museums, including the Parco Museum Tokyo.
Takeru Amano's work has been auctioned several times, with realized prices of 44,882 USD.

Since 2016, the highest auction price for this artist has been 44,882 USD for Venus, which was sold at Ravenel in Taipei in 2022.

Takeru Amano has been featured in ArtDaily, HYPEBEAST, and JUXTAPOZ articles. Young Japanese Pop Artists Gather at Bonhams May Contemporary Art Sale, written for ArtDaily in May 2022, is the most recent article.

  • Style & Technique

His universe is one-of-a-kind and playful, influenced by the Japanese culture of the late twentieth century in which he grew up. Takeru combines classical, philosophical, or even mythological themes with neo-pop aesthetics and, on sometimes, a dash of humour. Consider Venus with a lemon. Or perhaps the Virgin Mary in dazzling neon colors. From his Tokyo pop perspective, seeing these well-known (Western) icons can seem bizarre.

Yoshitaka Amano, a well-known Japanese illustrator, impacted Amano's portfolio, as did the cultural effect of the anime trend. He can merge hints of Western influences of classicism and modernity with ease thanks to his learning experience in New York and in-depth research on printmaking. Various aspects of life and rising American society have influenced his eye-catching works, which feature explosive, popping hues, vivid brushstrokes, and clean lines. Venus, the bashful girl, and the cat immediately come to life on the canvas. There are no extra frills required because the feminine characteristics are fully expressed.

  • Success

Takeru Amano's first verified exhibition was The Hero Always Arrives Late in 2011 at Art Statements - Tokyo in Minato-ku Tokyo, and his most recent exhibition was Kunstrai 2022 at KunstRAI in Amsterdam in 2022. Takeru Amano is best known for his work in Japan, but he has also had shows in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere. Takeru Amano has had at least four solo shows and three group shows in the last 11 years (for more information, see biography). Takeru Amano has also participated in three art fairs but no biennials. In 2016, Takeru Amano - Icones was on display at Art Statements Gallery in Hong Kong. Another notable exhibition was held at the 193 Gallery in Paris. Takeru Amano has exhibited alongside Yayoi Kusama and Kenpei Yunde.
