Takeshi Murakami, known as the "Andy Warhol of Japan," creates his quirky, one-of-a-kind figures and artwork by drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese painting. Murakami blurs the barriers between high art and low culture, East and West, the past and present by using both conventional media, like as painting and sculpture, as well as commercial media, including fashion and animation.

Takashi Murakami has developed a universe of characters with strong manga and anime aesthetics. Mr. DOB, a moniker derived from the Japanese term "debojite," "why?" is the protagonist of this artwork.
Mr. DOB, Murakami's alter persona, was created in 1993 and is also known as "the Japanese Mickey Mouse": the artist purposefully made it with the attributes of the renowned American Mickey Mouse to remind the Japanese people that the Japanese culture does not require Western influences to spread.
