Takashi Murakami

The Andy Warhol of Japan

Takeshi Murakami, known as the "Andy Warhol of Japan," creates his quirky, one-of-a-kind figures and artwork by drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese painting. Murakami blurs the barriers between high art and low culture, East and West, the past and present by using both conventional media, like as painting and sculpture, as well as commercial media, including fashion and animation.

Homage To Director Hideaki Anno: Evangelion & Godzilla Resurgence

White Frame Included

Takashi Murakami, a well-known Japanese artist, has just contributed his unique psychedelic images to the next Godzilla film.

This spectacular mashup is said to have started as an April Fools joke on the official Evangelion and Godzilla websites, but it was too good to pass up. Since then, artists such as Mahiro Maeda (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind) and Yuji Kaida have created promotional goods pitting the huge reptile against Eva Unit-01 (Gundam). Murakami, who was named one of Time's most influential people of 2008, gives the monster-mecha action a kaleidoscopic twist.
